Marcus Sealy
accompanist
Marcus Sealy was born in Trowbridge but grew up near Portsmouth, starting organ lessons at the Cathedral at an early age. After graduating from the Royal College of Music – organ and harpsichord were his chosen specialisms – he gained a Diploma in Education from Reading University and was awarded Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. Appointed to teach music and French at Kingswood School, Bath, in 1974 Marcus also became Assistant Organist (Sub-Organist from 2005) at Bath Abbey, delighting worldwide audiences for a remarkable 43 years with his playing on the famous Klais organ, giving solo recitals and playing for many concerts, broadcasts and CDs. As accompanist to Bath Bach Choir from January 1982 until the present day, he has collaborated with three different conductors and has been an integral part of many concerts, including some 140 carol concerts. Marcus has been on overseas tours with both the Abbey and Bath Bach Choirs – his performance on Bach’s organ in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig was quite unforgettable.
Much in demand as a keyboard accompanist, Marcus often performs with his wife, soprano Lucy Sealy. Having retired from teaching and from his busy schedule at Bath Abbey, Marcus has recently found more time (when the gardening permits) to walk the coastal paths of Dorset and Cornwall, watch cricket with his daughter and spend summer holidays in France or the Greek islands.
