Carols by Candlelight

Thursday 16 December 2021
Friday 17 December 2021
The Pump Room, Bath

Bath Bach Choir has performed three nights of Carols by Candlelight every year since 1946 – a much-loved calendar fixture that, for many Bathonians, marks the true start of Christmas. In 2020, the logistics were different but the spirit was the same, as the choir took over the Bath Assembly Rooms for two days of uplifting Christmas music, plus a bonus performance at St Mary’s Church, Bathwick. (Bath Bach Choir had been rehearsing – and performed – under carefully controlled, Covid-safe conditions.)

In 2021 we will be back at the Pump Room for two nights of Carols by Candlelight on 16 and 17 December.

Each night, a retiring collection is taken to support two charities. The choir is grateful to its audience of 2019, whose generous donations meant that £2,000 could be shared between Julian House and Citizens Advice Bath & North East Somerset.

Bath Bach Choir each year brings Christmas to Bath with its Carols by Candlelight, a programme that blends the traditional with the original, the festive with the fantastic. The choir was conducted by Nigel Perrin, whose humour created a warm and relaxed atmosphere, encouraging the audience regularly into song throughout the evening – an evening that lifted spirits and brought home the true magic of Christmas. Hearing Bath Bach Choir proved to be a real treat, one I will not reserve for just Christmastime.
