Bath Bach Choir meets on most Monday evenings from September to July, 7.15 to 9.30pm, at King Edward’s Junior School, North Road, Bath.

We extend a very warm welcome to new members and encourage anyone who might be interested to come and give us a go at any Monday night practice – with no obligation! If you’d like to take things further and join, then you’ll have a friendly audition – arranged to suit – with Benedict, our Musical Director. This is designed to test your voice range and existing musical standard and everyone is re-auditioned every four years.

At rehearsal we warm up with some vocal exercises before detailed practice of the pieces that we are preparing to perform. There is a coffee break midway through the rehearsal. We also have a couple of rehearsals in the year that include an extended ‘party break’ to give plenty of opportunity to socialise.

In a typical year, the choir gives three principal concerts – at least one of which is in Bath Abbey with orchestra and soloists. We also stage the legendary Carols by Candlelight concerts in the Pump Room just before Christmas; and a one-day workshop in February, where we welcome anyone with an interest to come and sing with the choir. Other performance opportunities often arise during the year in addition to these. For any given concert we expect members to commit to the rehearsals and not miss more than two.

The subscription is currently £200 a year, which can be paid in full in September or in two instalments. There is a 50% reduction for those in full-time education and any singer on a low income is very welcome to discuss a reduction in the fee with the membership secretary. Music can be bought or hired through the choir.
